When Pep Guardiola gave his squad the day off on Thursday, he might have expected peace and quiet to descend on the Säbener Strasse training facility – but the coach hadn’t taken into account his players’ enthusiasm and passion for hard work. Rather than put their feet up, Mario Götze, Javi Martínez, Jan Kirchhoff, Diego Contento and Dante reported to fitness specialists Lorenzo Buenaventura and Andreas Kornmayer for a punishing session packed with sweat and toil. Elsewhere at the facility, Arjen Robben went for a long run, and the Performance Center was a busy place too, as a number of the stars worked out in the weights room and/or called in on the medical unit for treatment and physiotherapy.
